Border
Border -- an area which surrounds the focal point of a quilt much like a frame does a picture. Quilting for one border is included in the custom fee of 3.5 cents a square inch, additional borders cost $20.00 each.
Edge to edge, or overall quilting -- is just that. This quilt will have only one quilted design. It has NO borders.
Piecer -- one who pieces quilt tops together; usually a lover of fabric and desigh; easily spotted by bits of thread on their clothes; often surrounded by friends and family who frequently as, "Is this one for me?" A Piecer may have a notebook in their glove compartment containing a list of quilt shops visited, patterns purchased, and current projects.
Sq inch -- multiply the lenth in inches by the width in inches to get the number of square inches in your project. Multiply this number by the labor fee (.015 for edge to edge; .035 for custom with one boarder; .04 for complex custom) to estimate the labor cost to quilt your project.
Basting -- loose stitches that hold the top, batting, and backing of a quilt together so that it can be quilted. This keeps the layers from shifting and creating perminent wrinkles and puckers in the project. Basting is only needed for hand quilting. The labor fee for basting is 1/2 cent a square inch.
